Decorating / Wallpaper Un Peintre Pro (House painter)

Wallpaper can transform a room significantly. It can be used to delineate the different parts of a room or even make it look larger. The current trend is for wallpaper to be laid on one or two walls rather than in the entire room. Here’s how you can do it to execute this sometimes delicate task.

A question of space

  • The large size designs attract the eye, and are therefore suitable for a large room. On the other hand, they can overload a room cramped or full of nooks and crannies.
  • A light and plain tapestry, or even small patterns, enlarges the small rooms and is more restful for the eyes in spaces where you are called to spend the most time.
  • To highlight a tapestry with a somewhat original pattern, choose either a furniture of the same style, or a furniture completely neutral.
  • Vertical stripes on a low wall will give it a little height - provided the ceiling remains white.
  • On the ceiling, strips perpendicular to the door artificially shorten the space, while parallel strips lengthen it.
  • Before pasting the paper, check the effect it will produce by holding a sample in front of the wall.
  • Structured papers effectively camouflage cracks and irregularities.
  • Do not forget to note the serial number of your rolls to be able to recommend the same one.

Spoiled for choice

Laying wallpaper is easier than you think. A few tricks, simple instructions and a little imagination - that’s all you need to subtly or radically change the ambiance of a room.

  • Printed tapestries remain classics. Do-it-yourself and decoration stores offer a wide choice.
  • Simple, natural and economical, white ingrain paper is a fibrous paper with a light plaster-like relief due to its wood particles or oat ball. There are different grains and you can paint it.
  • Non-woven wallpaper, based on polyester fibers and cellulose, generally does not contain any toxic products. It is easy to install because the adhesive is applied to the walls.
  • With embossed patterns, embossed or expanded wallpapers are more difficult to lay.
  • The installation of wall textiles is similar to that of wallpaper, but they must be glued with a special product.
  • Very robust, vinyl papers are suitable for cellars and other wet rooms.

For easy installation

  • An old tapestry is easier to remove if it has been previously drilled with a spindle roller and then moistened. A little vinegar added to the water will have the effect of a solvent on the glue.
  • Before moistening the wallpaper in a room, turn off the power to prevent electrical shock to the outlets and switches.
  • If the wall to be upholstered is already painted, make sure that you will work on a healthy basis by sticking an adhesive paper on it, then by pulling it with a blow: if the paint holds, the tapestry will hold as well.
  • Plug the holes in the wall with plaster and sand until it is smooth.
  • It is best to sand and wash the walls covered with lacquer or oil paint.
  • Always start laying a wallpaper by the edge of the window.
  • To ensure adhesion of the tapestry to gypsum board, apply an undercoat.
  • Pay particular attention to the gluing of edges and corners.
  • Always repaint the ceiling and woodwork of a room before upholstering. Then cover the furniture and the carpet with painter’s canvases to protect them from drops of glue.

These tips should make it easy to put a wallpaper on one or more walls of your home.
